About Georgetown, TX

Georgetown, Texas, is a historic city located in Texas Lone Star State. The city was founded in 1848 and named after George Washington Glasscock who donated the land. Southwestern University is located in the city. It is one of Texas’s oldest universities. It was established in 1873. 700 acres of land are included in the campus, which includes the San Gabriel River. Fountainwood Observatory is another highlight of the university.

Georgetown is also home to the Red Poppy Capital of Texas. The town is nicknamed as such because of its popularity as a source of Red Poppies. Other sites to see in Georgetown include the Inner Space Cavern, an underground cavern filled with hundreds of stalactites. There is also an obstacle course at the Georgetown Fruit Farm.

Garey Park: About the Place

Located at the western edge of Georgetown’s extraterritorial jurisdiction, Garey Park is a 525-acre park that opened in June. The park is located between Georgetown and Cedar Park. It features a dog park, equestrian area, playscape, amphitheater, pavilions, and restrooms. 

The park is surrounded by a beautiful Hill Country landscape. It also features two fishing ponds. Garey Park is a popular destination for hikers, horseback riders, and other outdoor enthusiasts. The city is planning to expand the park in the future. 

There are two fishing ponds on site. There are also six covered pavilions with electricity. A large, well-maintained meadow makes a good home base for family fun. 

The Parks and Recreation Department has several activities that are present in this park. Some of the more exciting ones include the splash pad, a dog park, a playground, a wildlife viewing blind, a bicycle track, and an equestrian facility. While some of these things are free, some have a little cost.

Garey Park: The History

Originally a 525-acre ranch, Garey Park is a city park in Georgetown, Texas. It was given to the city by Jack and Camille Garey in 2004. There are many things to see and do at this park, ranging from a splash pad to an equestrian arena. It is also one of the biggest parks in Georgetown. 

Last April of this year, the park was open and ready for business. The splash pad has 28 water features controlled by motion sensors. It is open daily from April through October.

The 525-acre property has scenic Hill Country terrain and borders the San Gabriel River. The area will always be available for public recreation.

The ranch also has a 4,000-square-foot bunkhouse that has a concrete-reinforced storm shelter. There is a veterinary clinic in the building as well.

Garey Park: What To Do

Garey Park offers visitors a taste of the Texas Hill Country. The splash pad features 28 water features controlled by motion sensors which means it will close at least thirty minutes before the park closes. The splash pad is open from April through October.

Other fun things to be done at Garey Park include a dog park, a nature center, and a playground. Other activities at Garey Park include horseback riding, a wildlife viewing blind, and two fishing ponds. Those with pets are welcome to bring them along but must have current license tags. 

Garey Park: How To Go There

Getting to Garey Park in Georgetown, TX is not difficult. There are two ways to get there, one is through public transportation, and the other is by driving a car. The former method is less expensive and can be convenient.

They regularly change their policies and guidelines, so you may want to check with them before your visit. The park is open daily, including holidays. Summer may be an extremely hectic time. So it’s a good idea to bring extra water.

Garey Park is a dog-friendly park. There are several trails for walking, running, and riding. They also have picnic shelters and fishing ponds. The park offers several spaces that can be rented for events.

If you are interested in renting one of the pavilions, you can fill out a rental request form. Then you will need to contact the park by the end of the business day. You may need to pay a fee, and some requests may need to be approved by the park staff.
