Located in west Austin, Commons Ford Ranch Metropolitan Park is 215 acres of green space. It features a prairie, a swimming area, and a boat dock. It’s the perfect spot for a family outing. In the spring, the park’s prairie bursts into color. It’s also a great place to spot birds, such as the Yellow-Throated Vireo and White-Tailed Kite. 

Commons Ford Ranch Metropolitan Park has been around since 1983. Before this, it was part of the Resaca Ranch owned by the Baldwin family. The land was purchased by the city of Austin in 1982 for $3.6 million. 

The park also has a Dick Nichols playground, a volleyball court, picnic tables, and a boat dock. A prairie trail connects the park to Lake Austin. Several hiking trails wind through the park. The Waterfall Trail is open seven days a week, allowing visitors to take in a spectacular waterfall.

Located near the Austin skyline in the Southwestern part of the city, this 215-acre greenspace offers plenty of hiking, biking, and swimming to keep you busy all summer long. Several trails are short and medium-length, making them an ideal choice for families with small children. It also has a huge free parking lot of any park in Austin. 

The park is also notable for its many birding opportunities. In addition to the usual suspects, you may find a Great Horned Owl or two tucked away in the old Pecan trees below the prairie. Also, the park is a popular stopping point for many Austin-area cyclists. It also has a boat ramp and a small swimming area. This is a perfect place to let the kids get some exercise while you relax in the shade.

Commons Ford Ranch Metropolitan Park: What To Do

Located along the Colorado River in East Austin, the Commons Ford Ranch Metropolitan Park is a 215-acre park tucked away in a natural setting. There are several things to do at this amazing park, including picnicking, fishing, swimming, and hiking. The park is also home to prairie and woodlands. 

The prairie is home to a variety of bird species, including the White-Tailed Kite, Nashville Warbler, and Yellow-Throated Vireo. In addition to the wildlife, the park is also home to many native wildflowers and grasses. There are also several hiking trails throughout the park, including the Waterfall Trail. The trail is a 1.25-mile round trip that leads to a beautiful waterfall. It is open to visitors from 5:00 am to 10:00 pm. 

In addition to the hiking and nature study trails, there are also BBQ pits, picnic tables, and a boat ramp. Fishing is also available in the lake, but you will need to bring your bait. This is a great park to visit if you are looking for an easy day out in the Texas sunshine. 

Commons Ford Ranch Park: How To Go There

Located in Austin, TX, Commons Ford Ranch Park is a great destination for family fun and adventure. The park has two parking areas. You can access the parking lot off N Commons Ford Road. A brown wind gauge located on the road indicates where you can park. 

The park has two picnic areas and several barbecue pits. It also offers a volleyball net and float tubes for floating. Several trails are also available.
